Frequently asked questions about Handicare single rail Freecurve stairlift.

Does the Freecurve come with an active seat or a classic seat?

The Handicare Freecurve stairlift will, as standard, come with a durable wipe clean seat available in three different colours called the Classic seat. However, one of the seat configuration options is for an Active seat which gently helps you get in and out of your stairlift. Unlike the classic seat , the unique and patented Active model provides assistance for those users who would like some additional support when getting on or off the stairlift which can reduce strain on your joints and muscles. If you’re not sure whether you need an Active or a classic seat then call us to see the different configurations in one of our branches.

Can it be used in particularly narrow curved staircases?

Curved stairlifts such as the Freecurve single rail curved system can be fitted to some of the narrowest staircases with the optional Turn & Go feature. This allows for not just the normal ‘back to the wall’ seat positions, but also a downward facing seat positioned at 45% to the wall which can reduce the clearance ideal for narrow staircases.

Does it have a retractable seat belt?

As a safety feature, every Handicare stair lift has a retractable seat belt.

What happens if there is not enough room at the bottom of the stairs?

The Handicare Freecurve stair lift has a range of options to address limited clearance issues. When there is a doorway or an obstruction at the bottom of the stairs an automatic hinged rail or a drop nose track might be an option.

What happens with the stairlift in the event of a power cut?

Don’t worry! The Handicare Freecurve will use its batteries to remain operational for approximately 10 rides up and down your stairs.

What safety mechanisms does the Freecurve have?

There are safety sensors around the lift as it moves that means it will automatically cut out if it comes in contact with an obstruction.
